Anxiety on Starting a Family

AA30sFemale
Married for 5 years+, I am 36 and husband is 37. We have regular conversations about whether we want to start a family or not, as a couple as well as with close family & friends. Generally I am more apprehensive and anxious but husband is more open. We are exploring talking to an expert (counsellor/therapist/fertility expert), or finding resources (talks or support groups) on this. Any advice?

It's great that you and your husband are openly discussing such a significant decision. Here are a few steps that might help you navigate this conversation and reduce any anxiety you may feel:
1. Seek Professional Guidance:
1) A couples' therapist or family counsellor can help facilitate discussions about your concerns and hopes, ensuring you both feel heard.
2) A fertility expert might help alleviate anxieties about the medical and biological aspects of family planning, allowing you to make informed decisions about timing and possibilities.

2. Consider Individual Therapy:
If you're feeling especially anxious or apprehensive, it may help to speak with a therapist on your own. This can provide a safe space to unpack any fears or concerns about starting a family, without the pressure of finding immediate solutions.

3. Books and Resources:
Podcasts and TED talks can also offer insightful discussions on family, personal choice, and dealing with uncertainty.

It's important to allow both of you to express your concerns without pressure, and these resources can make the process smoother.
